After a couple of days of not feeling well, Luke was feeling much better and was able to rejoin us with all our activities.

There are two main sports in Peru: soccer and volleyball. Last year, we hosted two volleyball tournaments which invited people from the neighborhood or from schools to form teams. We then would have the opportunity to present the gospel to them. The pastor we partnered with this year did not have the teams pre-register for the tournament as we had agreed. He continued assuring me that we would have the ten teams we were seeking for the tournament as he had been advertising it and had gotten verbal commitments from many teams.

We setup the courts and waited for the teams to arrive. The tournament was scheduled to start at 9:00am. By 10:00am we had 4 players of 1 team. By 11:00am we had four teams and decided to start with the four teams. When we called for the first two teams to play, one of the teams backed out. We then called the other two teams and they did not have all of their players present. At that time, though we did not want to do it, I decided that it would be best to cancel the tournament. We gave away drinks that we had prepared and the volleyballs that we had brought for the tournament to preserve goodwill with those that did arrive. Though a few were upset (because they had recruited a strong team to win the prize), most were very understanding and even commented that it was good to cancel to teach them to be more respectful of time.

As we now had some extra time on our hands, we set out to do a little sight seeing and to give my wife and I a chance to check out a few things for when we go to Lima as full-time missionaries. We first went to a beach near where we are staying. It is a nice beach with sand (as opposed to the rocks at the beach we were at on Monday) and the kids had fun writing in the sand and some walking in the water. We then went to the Seminary so I could show them where I grew up and as an opportunity to see some people I had not seen in years.

While we were traveling by taxi from the beach to the Seminary, I had the opportunity to talk to the driver. As I took him through the good person test (http://www.livingwaters.com/good/), he did not want to admit to being a liar but as I continued, he was very receptive and attentive to the gospel. When we arrived, he was grateful for our conversation.

While at the Seminary, we had the chance to play some volleyball. We then travelled to La Pascana to check out prices on appliances and other household items in the new shopping center. We then purchased our last churros (Peruvian pastry) before returning home.
